Interesting times. I've been serving as the Young Women's Secretary in our ward since September, and earlier on this year our President started talking about moving. To my surprise, once she brought it up, the other two counselors started talking about wanting to move as well. I had just moved into the ward, and I was going nowhere. "Uh-oh" said a little voice inside me... "I may be considered to be the president." Now, I am all for serving people within the church in whatever capacity God sees fit to call you to. For me, however, the president leadership stuff makes me wary. I was a Relief Society president back in my BYU days, and quite honestly I left that calling feeling like I hadn't done enough and wasn't good enough for the position anyways. Yes, I'm hard on myself. I realize that. But it's one thing to realize a fault and another to be rid of it. That's where God comes in to help us.
After that presidency meeting, I went home and fervently and tearfully prayed that God would not give me that calling. And I kept praying for it. Finally, two weeks later, I got a distinct impression that God would give me what I wanted, but he was really disappointed in me. *Sigh. Then Sunday came along, and I was called to a different position in the Young Women's organization. I started really thinking about it and how I would make it work and help the Young Women, and really gearing up for it. I went to the temple, and it was one of those sessions where God really speaks strongly to you and teaches and humbles you intensely. I really was chastened for my unwillingness to go and do what God wanted me to do, and I needed to put my trust in Him and get over myself and my inefficiencies. By the end, I finally told God that although He hadn't called me to be the Young Women's President this time around, if He ever did in the future, and with whatever calling He wishes to give me, I would put my trust in Him and accept it. He had me.
Well, Sunday rolled around, and for some reason they didn't make the calls to reorganize the presidency. Funny. Then the second counselor in the bishopric asked Trev and I to meet with them after church. Funny. We went in, and they said that instead of calling me to that other calling, some things had changed and they wanted to call me as the Young Women's President. I laughed. And cried. And accepted. It really is amazing how God really knows us and what needs to be done to refine us, encourage us, and help us grow. I am so thankful for Him.
In other news, we're doing awesome. Trev and I have signed up for four different athletic events this year: two 5k mud runs (where you run through mud and get through obstacles), one 5k color run (where they throw colored chalk at you), and one ten mile mud run. We've never done any before, so hopefully we like them!
Brighton is crawling like a champ, and Devri is growing and learning so much every day, like how to make toast, crack eggs, and get herself dressed. She actually has a very developed sense of style now. With the warmed weather, I explained to her that we don't need to wear as much clothing. So she wore sandals. Along with a hat, a sweater, and a down coat. Hey, that's progress. You should see how proudly she struts her carefully thought out mismatched polka dot pants and flower print shirts. :) She's a cutie and a half.
Dev sometimes does get a little jealous of Brighton - Brighton had some diapers that had Winnie the Pooh and ducks on them, and Dev just had the boring polka dot Target ones. She didn't think that was quite fair, so we mitigated the situation with some handy markers nearby:
Who needs name brand? ;)
Also, we've made another Deakin Feature: Brownielocks and the Three Bears. We've been fabulously busy and productive, and I'm loving (most) every minute of being a mom to my girls. Yay life!
