Mamamamamam!

The past two weeks have been crazy hectic.  Trev and I have been busy in our calling as nursery teachers!  It's been fun just playing with toys and cute kids for two hours every three weeks.  We gave talks today as well, which were only about five minutes max each because it was a full schedule for the sacrament meeting for a farewell.  That's okay, though.  I wasn't quite prepared anyway.  Oh, and big news - I cleaned the house top to bottom!  The whole house was clean in the same day!  Miracles can happen, I tell you.

Devri has started saying "mamammamam" a lot, especially when she's sad.  It's so cute.  I'd like to think that she's said her first word, but I really don't think she knows what she's saying yet.  I snuck up on her taking her nap the other day to catch her talking.  I'll try posting the vid soon.

Other than that, life is good.  Can't wait for the waiting period to be over, though.

A mid-mid life crisis and Devri's 6 month pictures

The past two weeks have been really fun.  Trevor is now 25 years old!  Yeah, I know - that's way old compared to a 22 year old like me :).  Honestly, though, we were talking about it, and much of the time we feel just as young as we did back in high school.  Except now we're better looking.  For Trevor's birthday, my gift to him was a little low key; he really loves anything to do with WWII memorabilia, so I hopped online and found a 1943 steel penny, one of the ration tokens they used, and a photograph from WWII - all for $7.  Then, Trevor completely reminds me of George Bailey from "It's a Wonderful Life," so I got the DVD and threw it in.  To give it to him, I wrapped them all up in a brown paper bag and included this note (on paper that I aged) and had him read it out loud to his family:

28 February, 1945

My Dearest Beloved Trevor,

Today is your birthday! I am so thankful to know that I still have you with me, despite the great war going on.  I have missed you so much.  Your family is doing well.  Rob is working as an engineer for the new P-47 airplanes coming out this year.  Katie is busy compiling a cook book with recipes that don't call for eggs or milk to help raise money for our soldiers.  Brandt and Ann are working on some sort of top secret project for the military.  Keith and Meg have moved to England to help rebuild their country and spread the gospel.  Your mother is keeping busy volunteering with the Red Cross while your farther is away with the Navy.  All your nieces and nephews have been so helpful collecting aluminum foil and other recyclable items to contribute to the war effort.  Devri is now getting on her hands and knees! She may be crawling by the time this gets to you (by the way - she IS getting on her hands and knees now!).

Darling, there is a new flick in town that I can't help but think about you when I watch it.  No matter what setbacks we encounter and hardships that come our way, I know we will always be happy because we have what matters most: the Lord and each other.  Although our dreams don't always turn out the way we imagine, I want you to know that it's a wonderful life.

Love always,  Grady

Yeah, it was a good present.  That, combined with the fact that we got a motorcycle as well.  Meet the newest addition to the family: a '85 cherry red Honda Rebel named Rita!  :)

Trevor and I are getting our motorcycle licenses as we speak.  We're both really excited.  This motorcycle I like to call our mid-mid life crisis.  Just making sure that we don't get too old to try new things.
This month is going to be a big one for us:  we're finding out where we're going to live and work during the summer and where we're going to live and go to school for the next two years!  I love important time periods like this.  Because our lives will be so affected by which way we turn, the Lord plays a big hand in leading us.  I'm so thankful for His guidance.

Devri has had her first real sickness this week, which was hard.  I don't, DON'T like seeing my baby cry and have a runny nose.  It makes me want to somehow grab all the germs, put them under a microscope to glare at, and them hammer them with a bleach-covered mallet.  Yes, I think that will do.  Luckily, she's on the mend and quite honestly has been a jewel the entire time.

I'm getting a little discouraged trying to find somewhere to teach Hebrew.  The private schools I applied to don't have room in their upcoming schedules, but they said they'd keep me on file.  I'm thinking I'll start a mini-lesson thing after stake institute.  We'll see.  I've been getting pangs lately from not being in school.  I really miss it.  I love being a housewife, and the things I am doing and learning are very, very important.  School has just always been such a big part of me, though.  I've started looking at where I want to get my Master's - #1 on my list is the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, where my teacher got his degrees.  It's at least four years away, but it's a very fond dream of mine.  *sigh* - We'll see where God leads us.

On the brighter side, the free time I have has been very useful!  I'm getting to do [other people's] yard work, which is so FUN!  I've missed having a yard.  I spent three and a half hours Monday raking my mother's yard, and I actually got sunburned.  I didn't think that was possible in March.  Go figure.  I'm collecting recipe ideas and learning more and more about nutrition, keeping to a schedule, keeping goals, and so forth.  I've got a "coffee date" with one of my neighbors and I'm going to make root beer with her and other fun projects.  Oh.  And I'm taking up sewing.  And cake decorating.  I'm not good, and progress is sometimes very slow, but progress is progress.

One last thing.  I've boycotted the Bachelor.  Yeah, I've only watched two episodes in my life, but at least I'm not continuing.  The first episode was hard to take as it was, seeing those girls hinge their self esteem on totally wrong standards.  The next episode was absolutely revolting and disgusting. For one - ladies, your worth and value stands completely separate from your relationship status and whether or not your are a particular guy's "type." For two - Why on earth should you make falling in love a competition that changes week by week? That sorry excuse for a man is fooling no one saying he's "equally in love with three women." For five billion - that whole "spending the night together" thing absolutely sickened me. The importance of physical affection in relationships is WAY out of proportion. The guy commended that poor woman about her values and then totally took them from her and smothered them into the dirt. Rule #1 in my household: no watching The Bachelor. Anyone willing to join with me in the boycott will have my utmost respect.

Okay, ranting done.  Last but not least, Devri is now six months old and has some BEAUTIFUL portraits:

Yay Target Portrait Studios.  That's all for now!
